Go-Getters Carry On Despite Drop In Numbers

The 54th annual Go-Getters Youth Rodeo kicked off at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. It was the 54th installment of the event, located south of Wolf Point. Katie Hansen MacDonald told the Northern Plains Independent that participation was down due to a high school rodeo event scheduling conflict.

“We were short about 25 contestants because there was a high school rodeo on the same day,” said MacDonald. “It’s usually twice that size. We were done at about 2:30 in the afternoon and usually we’re not done until seven at night.”

Despite the scheduling issue, participants seemed in good spirits Sunday morning. Cece Reid won best all around cowgirl (age 14-18) and Cory Fleming won best all around cowboy aged 8 and under.

Other categories of competition included goat tying, barrel racing, flag racing, pole bending, key hole racing, steer undecorating, breakaway roping, team roping, sheep riding and a wild calf race.

Stock for the event was provided by Ike Heser, Cornwell Ranch, Missoiuri River Roping Club and Katie MacDonald.

Robert Toavs was announcer and Del Hansen was arena director.
