Wolves Drop Game in Harlem
Wolf Point put together a strong effort before losing at Harlem, 34-21, in Class B football action on Friday night, Sept. 11.
“Hats off to the Wildcats as they played a good game with limited players,” Wolf Point coach Ryan Wilson said. “The weird start in the season led to many miscues and missed opportunities. We will work on cleaning up those things.”
Wolf Point’s Austin Wilson rushed for 117 yards including a 25-yard touchdown run. He caught two passes including a touchdown reception from sophomore Corey Martell.
“He made some plays in his first time playing quarterback,” Coach Wilson said of Martell.
Other Wolves with catches were Vaun Jensen and Martell. Another highlight was kicker Parker Swenson making all three of his PAT kicks.
“Offensively, we struggled and need to get better,” Coach Wilson said. “Defensively, we made some good plays.”
Top defensive performances included freshman Charlie Page with 10 tackles. Having seven tackles each were Braeden Toavs, Hunter Raining Bird, Martell, Jensen and John Hotomanie.
Freshmen Cale Jensen, Chance Smith, Xavie Kemp and Logan Brown registered their first career tackles for the Wolves.
Charles Bearsghost intercepted a pass and Toavs had a sack.
“The play of the game was made by sophomore Vaun Jensen who intercepted a pass late in the first half and sprinted down the sideline to score his first career touchdown,” Coach Wilson said.
Wolf Point is scheduled to play at Malta Friday, Sept. 18.
“We’ll be working on fixing mental mistakes by both coaches and players,” Coach Wilson said.
