Two Wolf Point students have gained recognition for their art work.

Wolf Point High School freshman Adeia Erickson earned second place and sophomore Audriana Fourbear captured third place in the this year’s Montana Congressional Art competition.

The students received a phone call from U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., to congratulate them and ask the students about their inspirations.

Erickson described her work as an abstract piece of a woman featuring the colors of red and blue.

She noted that art is definitely one of her favorite classes.

Fourbear said her piece was a desert scene with a surreal tone to it.

“It was kind of like midnight and daylight at the same time,” Fourbear said.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as each congressional district.
