Principal Hired For Southside
The Wolf Point School Board approved several hiring recommendations during its meeting Monday, Aug. 9.
Topping the list is Patrick Drapeau as the new principal at Southside School.
“We’re excited and looking forward to work with the Southside leadership team,” superintendent Loverty Erickson said. Teachers hired included Andrew Tumonong and Ronnel Tumonong.
Stacey Summers was hired as the high school’s new head cross-country coach. Assistant football coaches hired included Frank Benson, John Gardner and Keyvin Brock.
Trustee Corey Reum was hired as a school district employee. Because he is becoming a paid employee, Reum will need to leave his school board position.
“I officially retire,” Reum said of leaving the board.
Erickson said a special meeting will take place on Aug. 19 or Aug. 20 to tie up things before the start of the school year. That meeting will likely include the hiring of additional teachers.
Northside principal Georgie Gourneau and junior high principal Greg Gourneau each reported improved testing results at their schools.
“All of our students moved some,” Greg Gourneau said of the improvement. “Maybe not a whole level, but there was improvement.”
Georgie Gourneau added, “Teachers are making progress. They are doing a good job.”
High school principal Kim Hanks shared figures of ACT testing regarding last year’s junior class. Wolf Point’s students had a composite score of 16. The state average is 19.1 Business manager Cheri’ Nygard reviewed the 20212022 final budgets. The elementary budget decreased from $5,281,632 in 2020-2021 to $5,084,754 in 2021-2022. With an increased in enrollment, the high school budget increased from $3,698,887 in 2020-2021 to $3,959,991 in 2021-2022.
Trustees approved the suicide intervention protocol plan. Guidance counselor Erin Loendorf noted that the plan calls for everybody to be trained annually.
