The monthly weather- ready briefing for August was conducted by the National Weather Service last week.

Providing the information were Scott Rozanski of the Glasgow station and Nick Vertz of the Billings station.

The report noted that temperatures were close to normal during August. A few areas in northeast Montana experienced a little above temperatures for the time period.

Glasgow reached a record breaking high of 108 degrees Aug. 2. The temperature broke the previous record set in 1973.

As far as precipitation, Glasgow has 1.27 inches below normal this year while Billings has 1.31 inches below normal for the year.

For the beginning part of September, the expectation is for above average temperatures and below average precipitation.

Officials expect slightly above normal temperatures for the three-month period featuring September, October and November. Rozanski noted that doesn’t mean there won’t be any cooler than normal days.

Drought conditions are anticipated to continue in the region.
