Council Approves Permit Variance, Parade
The Wolf Point City Council held its regular meeting Monday, Sept. 16. During the public comment period, a local resident asked for a variance to make room for a car port, which extends six feet into a city owned right of way. A revocable license was discussed and approved for the property. Concerns were expressed about setting a precedent for permitting structures after they have been built.
A representative from Great Northern Development Corporation spoke to the council, providing an update. No firm construction timelines were available for city projects on Custer Street.
City attorney Montana Wilson gave a legal update, including some discussion of an open civil suit involving city police officers. He also provided an update about ongoing negotiations over the airport lease agreement.
The public works report included work on crosswalks, landfill staff certifications, street patching and trench work for fiber optics at the airport.
A public hearing is being scheduled to gather input about plans to develop the park property next to Town Pump. That meeting will be held Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. At press time, the meeting location had yet to be determined.
The council approved the parade route for Wolf Point High School homecoming organizers. The week’s dates are Oct. 7-12. The parade will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. and will proceed down Main Street from the school grounds.
The council passed a resolution approving American Rescue Plan Act funding for purchasing public works department’s vehicle replacements. No purchases have been formally identified. A draw request was approved for Great West Engineering for wastewater system improvements in the amount of $4,981.90.
The next regular meeting is set for Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
