Fort Peck Summer Theatre Replaces High School Musical With Godspell
According to Fort Peck Fine Arts Council executive director Jennifer Fewer, Fort Peck Summer Theatre has made an energizing change to the 2021 summer line-up: Godspell will replace the previously announced High School Musical.
A host of young talent from northeast Montana and beyond will be featured.
Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, now famous for Wicked, Pippin and the films The Prince of Egypt, Enchanted and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
The show boasts a score of hits, including Day by Day which neared the top of the Billboard Pop Single chart in the summer of 1972. The popular musical has enjoyed numerous revivals in NYC and remains one of the most frequently produced shows around the world.
Primarily based on the Gospel of Matthew, a group of disciples perform parables by using a wide variety of theatrical tactics, including mime, clowning, multiple styles of dance, puppetry and comedy. The eclectic blend of music ranges from pop to vaudeville.
This special event runs for three performances only: July 28-29 at 7:30 p.m., and July 31 at 2 p.m.
Godspell joins FPST’s diverse season of 2021 shows, which also features Dames at Sea, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Spitfire Grill, Baskerville, Terms of Endearment and Ed Asner in Gold Help Us, as well as the touring Around the World in 80 Days…or 37 Minutes and the annual performing arts camp.
