Summer Theatre Opens Godspell, Jr
Fort Peck Summer Theatre is opening Godspell, Jr for three performances July 2831. Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz, now famous for Wicked, Pippin and the films The Prince of Egypt, Enchanted and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
According to Fort Peck Fine Arts Council executive director Jennifer Fewer, âThe show boasts a score of hits, including âDay by Dayâ which neared the top of the Billboard Pop Single chart in the summer of 1972. The popular musical has enjoyed numerous revivals in NYC and remains one of the most frequently produced shows around the world.â
Primarily based on the Gospel of Matthew, the production follows a group of disciples who perform parables by using a wide variety of theatrical tactics, including mime, clowning, multiple styles of dance, puppetry and a hefty dose of comic timing. The blend of music ranges from pop to vaudeville.
This special event runs for three performances only: Wednesday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m.
The cast stars Chase Tarum as Jesus, Tommi Prewett as Judas and Anthony Manfredo as John the Baptist, along with Mariah Cathey, Codi Donniaquo, Aubre Hartsock, Ali Kuka, Adam Mickleson, Savannah Norton, Abby Peterson, Chayten Pippin, Gabriel Proctor, McKenna Strommen, Tarin Vandall and Brooke Watson.
Godspell is directed by Chae Clearwood, Andy Meyers and members of the 2021 Fort Peck Summer Theatre company, with musical direction by Luree Green-Chappell.
