Cowboys Stay Undefeated, Prepare For Scobey

The Culbertson Cowboys exploded for 38 points in the first half and posted a 54-16 home football victory on Friday, Sept. 10.

“I was happy with the good all-around effort,” Culbertson Coach Brian Manning said.

The victory improved Culbertson’s record to 3-0 heading into a home showdown against Scobey on Saturday, Sept. 18.

One strong point for the Cowboys against Nashua was the accurate passing of Payton Perkins. The junior completed all three of his pass attempts for a total of 104 yards.

“He was efficient throwing the ball,” Manning said.

Defensive standouts included James Kirkaldie with two interceptions and Aiden Perkins with key stops in the first half.

“We played a good allaround game,” Manning said.

After Kirkaldie’s first interception, the Cowboys got on the scoreboard on a 30-yard run by Kyler Kempton with 6:45 left in the opening quarter. P. Perkins ran in the twopoint conversion. The Dogies responded by driving inside the Culbertson 10, but tackles by A. Perkins, Kempton and P. Perkins ended the threat.

After a 28-yard pass to Justice Bengochea was good for a first down at the 34, tailback Kobe Nickoloff broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown dash. P. Perkins scrambled in for the two-point conversion and a 16-0 lead with 2:13 left in the first quarter.

The Cowboys then took over at the Forsyth 35 after another pick by Kirkaldie. Culbertson reached the end zone on an eight-yard run by Kempton. P. Peyton passed to Ethan Pirkle for the twopoint conversion. When Forsyth lost the ball on the ensuing kickoff, Nickoloff made the recovery at the Forsyth 32. A nice catch by Pirkle resulted in a 24yard gain to the 12. On the next play, Nickoloff ran into the end zone with 9:45 left in the half.

Forsyth was then in scoring position, but a fumble on a pass play was recovered by Reese Moon at the nine.

After a nice run by Kempton moved the ball inside Forsyth territory, the Cowboys hit paydirt on a threeyard run by Carson Solem for a 38-0 advantage with 7:46 left in the half.

Culbertson wasted little time to score in the third quarter as P. Perkins and Nickoloff connected on a 52yard touchdown pass play on the first play from scrimmage. P. Perkins ran in the conversion for a 46-0 lead.

The Dogies got on the scoreboard when a quick pass from Connor Kramer-Stahl to Michael Sorenson resulted in an 11-yard touchdown with 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Kramer-Stahl ran in the two-point conversion.

Forsyth struck again on a 31-yard touchdown throw from Kramer-Stahl to Toby Barta with 8:20 remaining.

The Cowboys accounted for the contest’s final touchdown on a 34-yard run by Kempton. P. Payton ran in the conversion for a 54-16 lead with 6:23 left.

Top rushers for the Cowboys included Kempton with 121 yards on four carries and Nickoloff with 54 yards on seven attempts.

Sorenson ran for 42 yards to lead Forsyth.
