City Making Progress With Housing, Law Enforcement

Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said two new homes should be featured in the community relatively soon.

“We’ve made the down payment,” Dschaak said. Funds came from a grant from the Montana Department of Commerce, through the assistance of Great Northern Development Corp. He expects about a 6- to 8-week turnaround until the three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses arrive. They will be located on Custer Street.

“We could have them literally for sale by September or October,” Dschaak said.

On another topic, law enforcement has been a challenge for Wolf Point since the community has relied on two city officers for this entire year so far. Dschaak said progress is being made as far as potentially hiring new officers.

The city will receive assistance from Roosevelt County and Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice to help maintain order during the Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede this weekend.

“They are always very OK with it,” Dschaak said. He added that other certified officials have been used in the past as well.

He is hopeful that the second phase of the city’s sewer project will be started this fall.

Relying on state and federal grants, the first phase cost about $10 million and the second phase will cost about $4.5 million.

“That’s almost $15 million being invested in the last two years,” Dschaak said.
