New Trustee Appointed For Wolf Point School Board
Michael Holen is the newest member of the Wolf Point School Board. Trustees unanimously approved Holen after a few interview questions during a meeting on Monday, July 8. Holen was the only candidate who filed for the district 4 position after Cody Larson resigned so he could be hired as a physical education teacher and girls’ basketball coach in Wolf Point.
During the interview, Holen said he was born and raised in Wolf Point. He attended a vo-tech school after graduating high school. He currently works for Columbia Grain. He has about 10 years of oilfield work experience. One of his children is a freshman and another is a second-grade student.
When board chair Roxanne Gourneau asked what is one thing that Holen wishes to do to help make Wolf Point a top school district, Holen answered, “Getting people to work together would be incredibly helpful.”
He said he sees the role of the school board as helping the school as much as possible. He wants a safe community school that provides a good education.
When asked what are some ideas to promote the school district’s public perception, Holen said he would like more people to get involved and for better attendance at school board meetings.
Trustee Michael Turcotte said that he feels Holen’s background in the oilfield and attending a votech school could be assets for the school district.
Turcotte made the motion to appoint Holen as a trustee. Trustee Keith Higgins seconded the motion, which passed by a 4-0 margin.
Also during the meeting, trustees approved the hiring of Amanda Campbell as a physical education teacher at Southside Elementary School.
Cole Baker resigned as assistant coach for the high school cross country program.
