The crowd was fired up in the Wolf Point High School gym on Thursday, Sept. 12, as Poplar and the Wolves squared off in a District 2B volleyball match.

The Indians came away with the upper-hand as they defeated Wolf Point by a 2514, 25-17, 25-20, final.

Wolf Point started off on a good note when kills by Keeley Blount-Henderson and Ma’Kenzie Jackson along with the serving of Kashlyn Speak Thunder put the Wolves ahead 9-6.

Poplar fought back to 10-10 on a kill by Braelyn Nordwick and gained the lead on an ace by Quintan Young. Two more kills by Nordwick and an ace by Angelina Escarcega created a 17-11 margin.

A tip by Nordwick and an ace by Rebecca Gorder helped Poplar increase the gap to 21-12.

The Indians went on to a 25-14 victory on a kill by Lanie Moran and the serving of Thea Weeks.

The serving of Speak Thunder and a kill by Lauren Rodenberg highlighted Wolf Point’s play early in the second set.

Poplar broke from a 1410 game by scoring seven straight points including two aces by Toni Brown to grab a 21-10 advantage.

Wolf Point fought back to 21-14, but Poplar then scored on a kill by Moran and an ace by Young.

The net play of Karmyn Plain Feather and Speak Thunder pulled the Wolves to 23-17, but the Indians scored the last two points including one on a kill by Nordwick.

In the third set, Poplar led 10-6 until the Wolves battled back on an ace by Rodenberg and the net play of Speak Thunder. An ace by Plain Feather tied the game at 14-14. A spike by Rodenberg kept the Wolves even at 17-17.

After the net play of Nordwick put Poplar into the lead, the serving of Young increased the gap to 23-17.

Blount-Henderson served an ace to lead the Wolves back to 23-20, but Poplar ended the match on a tip and kill by Nordwick.

Leaders for Poplar included Nordwick with 21 kills and Gorder with 31 assists.

Escarcega finished with 11 digs. Gorder served nine aces. Having blocks were Miley Crawford and Gorder.

The Wolves won both the JV and C squad matches in straight sets.
