Red Hawks Take Fourth At Eastern C Divisional Tournament In Glasgow

The Froid/Lake boys’ basketball squad came away with a fourth-place showing from the Eastern C divisional tournament in Glasgow. The tourney featured two victories and two close defeats for the Red Hawks.

Froid/Lake opened the tournament with a 58-34 win over Lustre on Wednesday.

The Red Hawks outscored Lustre 19-3 in the second quarter to earn a 34-16 halftime advantage.

Froid/Lake added 18 points in the third quarter en route to the 58-34 victory.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Javonne Nesbit with 15, Mason Dethman with 11 and Bode Miller with eight. Rounding out the scoring were Colt Miller with seven, Tyler Wivholm with six, Conner Huft with four, Brett Stentoft with three, Walker Ator with two and Ashdyn Hobbs with two.

Terry Allmer led Lustre with 14 points.

The Red Hawks put together a great fight before falling to divisional champion Scobey, 53-45, on Thursday night.

Froid/Lake led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, but Scobey took a 26-24 half-time advantage.

The Red Hawks regained the lead in the third quarter before the Spartans moved ahead by a 41-33 margin.

Reaching double figures for Froid/Lake were C. Miller with 16, Dethman with 13 and Nesbit with 10 points. Also scoring were Wivholm with four and B. Miller with two.

Top scorers for Scobey were Brayden Cromwell with 16, Aidan Fishell with 12 and Jayce Tande with nine points.

A strong second-half performance was the difference as Froid/Lake downed Mon-Dak, 42-30, on Friday.

After a 15-15 deadlock at the half, the Red Hawks gained a 27-24 lead in the third quarter. Froid/Lake struck for 15 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Froid/Lake’s top scorers were Nesbit with 15, C. Miller with 10 and Dethman with 10. Also scoring were B. Miller with four, Ator with three, Ayden Hobbs with three, Caden Kelm with two and Issac Johnson with two.

Leading MonDak were Keegan Nelson and Jack Solberg with eight points each.

Froid/Lake dropped the third-place game against Dobson by a 53-50 final on Saturday.

The Red Hawks entered the fourth quarter behind by a 39-34 margin and fell behind 42-34 on a three-point play by Dobson’s Jeremiah Benson.

Froid/Lake battled back with the next six points on a basket by Wivholm and free throws by C. Miller and Nesbit to pull to 42-40.

Behind 46-42, the Red Hawks used a three-pointer by Wivholm and two free throws by Nesbit to take a 47-46 lead with under four minutes remaining. The Coyotes regained the lead on a basket by Shaun Bell with 2:21 left.

After free throws by Corbin Lone Bear and Jeremiah Benson put the Coyotes up 51-47, the Red Hawks pulled to 51-49 on a drive by C. Miller. Froid/Lake got as close as 51-50 on a free throw by Dethman, but Dodson added two free throws by Ball with a second left.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were C. Miller with 20, Nesbit with 10, B. Miller with nine and Wivholm with seven. Also scoring were Ayden Hobbs with three and Dethman with one.

Leading Dodson were Ball with 15, Lone Bear with 15 and Jeremiah Benson with 10 points.
