Four-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Sidney Canal
A four-year-old boy drowned Friday, June 19, in a canal in Sidney, reported the Sidney Police Department. The boy has been identified by family members as Trace Hilburn, son of Trey and Kayla Hilburn.
The Sidney Police Department received a call at 12:15 p.m., Sidney Police Department Chief Mark Kraft said. Sidney Police officers, along with deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, personnel from the Richland County Fire Department and county ambulance services arrived at the scene where the boy was reported drowned. The child was retrieved from the water about a half-mile downstream from where he fell in, reported the Sidney Herald.
The Hilburns open and operate Hilburn’s BBQ in Fort Peck. A social media post from Kayla noted that they would not be opening the barbecue for the rest of the season.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home in Sidney, with services to be held Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at the Richland County Fairgrounds Event Center in Sidney. Burial will be in the Lambert Cemetery.
