City Hearing, Special Meeting Set For 2020-21 Budget
Vacant Police Officer Position On Chopping Block
Wolf Point residents will have the opportunity to attend the annual City of Wolf Point budget hearings to provide public comment on the proposed fiscal year 2020-21 budget.
The City of Wolf Point will hold a public hearing Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. and a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. The purpose of the hearing and meeting is to establish and fix a municipal budget for fiscal year 2020-21. The city will also be making budget appropriations.
According to a public notice published in this issue of the Northern Plains Independent, the budget has been placed on file and is open to inspection in the office of the city clerk. However, as of press time, a copy of the city budget was not available for review to allow the Independent to include the highlights of the budget in this article.
At the July 20 council meeting, city clerk/treasurer Marlene Mahlum told the council that there isn’t adequate funding available to pay for a vacant police officer position. She said the position may need to be eliminated.
Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said the voters of Wolf Point already approved funding the position, adding that a solution to the problem will need to be found.
Any taxpayer or resident may appear at the hearing and/or meeting and be heard for or against any part of the budget.
