County Fair Underway This Week

Northern Plains Independent Staff The Roosevelt County Fair will certainly have a different feel this year, but hopefully residents can make the event the best it can be while following the Coronavirus restrictions.

Roosevelt County fair manager Angela Miller noted that it was decided to cancel many fair activities during a meeting in June.

The fair kicked off with a horse show at the Culbertson Saddle Club at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The O-Mok-See began at 6:30 p.m.

Livestock weigh-in and ultrasounds was scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The barns were closed to the public during this process.

A small animal show was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the arena on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Judging for 4-H and FFA projects will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Buildings C and D will be closed to the public until 3 p.m.

A goat show, followed by a sheep show, starts at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.

On tap for Friday, Aug. 14, is a swine show at 8:30 a.m. and round-robin showmanship starting at 4:30 p.m.

“I’m looking forward to the showmanship,” Miller said.

The livestock auction begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14. Sections will be divided with no more than 50 individuals in a section.
