Grass Fire Contained South Of Fort Kipp Grass Fire Contained South Of Fort Kipp

The Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire south of Fort Kipp on Aug. 9 at 3:42 p.m. BIA Fire, Culbertson, Bainville, Brockton, and Froid volunteer fire departments responded.

According to Roosevelt County fire warden Mike Olson, the fire was moving quickly to the east due to high winds and dry fuels.

“The fire got in the trees along the river bottom and thick brush,” said Olson. He said a Roosevelt County road grader and a Single Engine Air Tanker were used to hold back the fire, which burned about 195 acres.

Captain Willie McDerment of BIA Fire told the Community

News that his crew joined the interdepartmental effort in the afternoon on Aug. 9. He said the fire’s progress was halted by sundown, but his team was on the scene until the following morning, when containment efforts were ongoing. He said no modern structures were damaged.
