The Froid/Lake Red Hawks plan to utilize their height advantage in order to be near the top of the volleyball standings this season.

Froid/Lake's program features 16 girls including six sophomores.

Seniors on the squad include 6-2 Sydney Dethman, an All-Conference performer, and Kinsey Rasmussen.

“We will probably be pretty close with Plentywood,” Froid/Lake Coach Kiah Smith said of her team being near the top of the league standings. “We should be right up there.”

Other Red Hawks with strong varsity experience include junior Meg Ator, 5-10 Caroline Christoffersen, 5-9 sophomore Dasani Nesbit and sophomore Bailey Davidson.

Aleah Johnson, a sophomore, returns as the squad's libero.

“We have a height advantage for sure,” Smith said. “Our offense is there. We just need to get better defensively.”

Along with Plentywood, the coach expects Fairview and Scobey to be among the teams to beat in the conference.

“North Country finished well last year and didn't lose much,” Smith said.

The Red Hawks will open their season at MonDak on Saturday, Aug. 29.

“It's going to be a different year with COVID,” Smith said. “It should be a fun year. I help we can finish it out.”
