Poplar Volleyball Team Ready To Spike It
You can feel the optimism when you walk into the Moccasin Square Garden at Poplar High School during the Lady Indians’ volleyball practices.
The Lady Indians' volleyball squad should be improved this season with a number of returning seniors.
Poplar coach William Bemer is excited about the turnout of 22 players. The group includes seniors Keandra Martell, Kahomani Charboneau, Macey Stump, Dusti Marottek, Paegan Kirn and Catherine Bear.
The Indians' offensive attack is led by Stump, who is a 6-3 middle blocker.
“She's one of the better players in the league,” Bemer said of Stump.
Other starters back for Poplar include Martell and Harlee Berg. Poplar is also looking for a strong season from 5-10 Morgen Nordwick.
“She's attacking very well,” Bemer said of Nordwick.
The coach noted that the team's strengths are its attacking and blocking.
“I'm really excited,” Bemer said. “There's a lot of depth and experience.”
He feels Glasgow and Malta are the league favorites heading into the season.
“Our goal is to finish in the top three,” Bemer said.
The Poplar girls are scheduled to open their volleyball season in Wolf Point on Thursday, Sept. 10, and in Malta on Saturday, Sept. 12. Poplar's first home match is against Fairview on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
