Poplar’s Cross Country Team Ready For Successful 2020
The return of a pair of standouts from two years ago has supporters of Poplar High School's cross-country program excited for the season.
Hudson Atkinson, a senior, returns after missing last year due to an injury.
As a sophomore, Atkinson won the Class B state championship with a time of 16.18.21. The second-place finisher was 16 seconds behind Atkinson. Poplar placed 12th as a team at the state meet that season.
On the girls' side, junior Allie Azure is back for the Indians.
Azure earned All-State honors by placing 11th at the state meet as a freshman. Her time was 20.26.74 at the state competition. Poplar's girls took Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 29.

First-year coach Evan Cummins and assistant coach Gib Medicine Cloud are pleased with how hard that Poplar's athletes are working this season.
The girls have some several solid runners who should contribute to a strong campaign. Among those athletes are junior Teagan Escarcega, junior Gracelyn Medicine Cloud and sophomore Jazmyn Carry Water.
At last year's state meet, Carry Water placed in 63rd place as a freshman. Escarcega earned 121st place and Medicine Cloud took 146th place.
