Turner Receives Distinguished Career Award

Sherri Turner from the Valley County Sheriff’s Office received the Distinguished Career Award from the Montana Sheriff’s and Peace Officers Association Aug. 20. Turner has been the administrative assistant for the VCSO for over 32 years.

According to the MSPOA, Turner is deserving of the Distinguished Career Award after a full career in public service. She has worked for and served seven different sheriffs during her career. She has not only kept the department in order at the local level in Valley County, but was always willing to assist on a statewide level as well.

According to several sheriffs who Turner worked for over the years, the title “administrative assistant” does not do justice to all of the duties and projects that she took on and ended up spearheading from behind the scenes. She is described as a strategic thinker and fiscally conscientious on behalf of the citizens of Valley County. Throughout her career, Turner performed her duties with integrity, diligence and transparency.

Each year, members of the MSPOA have the opportunity to nominate dedicated and deserving colleagues for awards. MSPOA recognizes officers for lifetime achievement in law enforcement, on-going contribution to the profession, agency and community, and for specific incidents. Due to COVID-19, the annual awards banquet was canceled. In place of the annual banquet, MSPOA board members traveled the state and gave out awards at the recipients’ home agency. All award recipients are public officials dedicated and committed to being professional and honorable law enforcement officers and civil servants.
