Wolves’ Gridiron Team Includes 14 Freshman Of 38 Players
The future is looking bright for Wolf Point's football program. This year's turnout of 38 athletes includes 14 freshmen.
“That's pretty good,” Wolf Point's coach Ryan Wilson said of the turnout. “I can live with that.”
Leading the group of returning players is quarterback/ linebacker Austin Wilson, who is the team's only returning captain and has received All-Conference recognition.
Other returning starters include Braeden Toavs at running back/linebacker and Ian Flynn at running back/ linebackers.
Sophomores Cory Martell and Kraven Silk each saw varsity playing action as freshmen.
Linemen with experience include Shastin Damon, Ben Boysun and Javian Martell.
“We have a whole bunch of inexperienced players,” Coach Wilson said.
He is pleased with how Wolf Point's program is improving. “I'm not going to lie, my son has been a great recruiter,” Coach Wilson laughed.
He sees Malta and Glasgow as the teams to beat in the league.
“We're super young and play in a tough conference,” Coach Wilson said.
The hope is for the Wolves to improve in each game this season.
“Our goal is to be competitive and win a couple of games,” the coach noted.
