The Wolf Point City Council held a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26. The meeting covered budget related special assessments, enterprise funds costs, mill levies and other budgetary issues.

There were no increases in light maintenance and street maintenance assessments for 2020-21. Enterprise funds for 2020-21 included a $13 capital projects surcharge effective July 15 as part of scheduled rate increases for water operating.

The taxable valuation for 2020 is $1,797,049, which includes a $64 increase from 2019. Levied funds include $416,738.35 in the general fund and $15,128.65 for the fire relief association.

Mills allowed outside of the authorized levy for 2020-21 include $100,000 for public safety, allowing the funding of a vacant police officer position, $9,400 for a permissive medical levy and $24,726.01 and $18,923 for the swimming pool.

The council passed resolution 952-2020, adopting the budget for fiscal year 2020.

A promotion request was approved for Wolf Point Police Department sergeant Alisha Morales. She has been raised to the rank of Lieutenant with an hourly wage of $25, effective August 17.

Authorization was granted by the council to move forward with a spill prevention, control and countermeasure plan with Trihydro Corporation at a cost of $22,997.

Cares Act reimbursement procedures were discussed. The city is still at the application stage. Mayor Chris Dschaak told the Northern Plains Independent that he was hopeful the pandemic-related funding will help cover budget shortfalls related to policing.

A water committee meeting was set for Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. in council chambers. The next regular council meeting is set for Sept. 21.
