Wolves Boys Take Fourth At Sidney Cross Country Meet
The Wolf Point Wolves emerged with a fourth-place showing on the boys' side at the large Sidney Invitational cross-country meet that featured Class A, B and C teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves accounted for 87 points. The top three teams were Lewistown with 54, Miles City with 79 and Laurel with 85 points.
Wolf Point's senior Zander Ackerman won his wave and finished fourth overall with a time of 18:35.42. Samuel Smith of Richey-Lambert was the overall top individual at 17:53.89.
“I felt comfortable at the start,” Ackerman said of his performance. He said he struggled some at the twomile mark. “Times don't matter right now.”
With waves or heats divided based on teams rather than times, many top runners weren't pushed by others in their particular run.
“Having no one to push me, I thought like I could do my own thing,” Ackerman said. “I was really happy with my first mile. I hit my split perfectly.”
Wolf Point's August Spotted Wolf also had a strong day as the junior finished seventh with a time of 19:49.05.
Ethan Blount, a junior, placed 13th at 20:07.14. Freshman Peyton Summers earned 36th place at 22:17.02. Kaholo Toves finished 45th at 22:41.21. Jaxon Azure took 80th at 29:47.13.
Laurel's girls won the team competition with 18 points. Also in the top three were Miles City with 53 and Lewistown with 71 points.
Laurel's Grace Timm was the individual winner with a time of 20:57.44.
Wolf Point's Piper Ruffing placed 15th with a time of 25:34.46.
Presley Grandchamp took 70th place at 38:46.37.
The Wolves will compete at the Poplar Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5.
