The 53rd Culbertson Saddle Club wagon train rolled out Saturday, Sept. 5. Handmade signs for the route to the group’s night camp were spotted on U.S. Highway 16 south of Culbertson at the turnoff to Charlie Creek.

Bainville’s Tana Hauso-Berwick told the Community News that participation was up from last year. “We had nine wagons,” said Berwick, “and approximately 115 participants.”

Berwick said 2019 also had nine wagons but the number of attendees this year was up considerably.

The group established a night camp on Fred and June Thompson’s land. Other cooperating landowners included the Steppler Ranch, Dean and Shannon Palmer and the Campstool Ranch.

Each year the saddle club awards prizes at the end of the weekend. Timber Hauso of Rhame, ND, won Most Unique Unit. Molly Rotenberger of Ludlow, SD, won Team & Wagon Traveling the Furthest. Culbertson’s Hoppy Hopfauf won for Oldest Entry. The Bosses Trophy went to Shanna Abbot of Belgrade and Carrie Heller of Williston, ND.
