After a promising start, Bainville’s football squad was outscored by the Richey/ Lambert Fusion, 66-18, on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs opened the six-man football game by marching 70 yards for a touchdown. Strong runs by Jesse Strickland, Braeden Romo and Britten VanGorder moved the ball midfield during the drive.

Facing a fourth-and-three situation, the Bulldogs kept the threat alive when Strickland connected with Charles Butikofer for a 14yard gain. On third down, Strickland rolled out and hit Adrian Anderson for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 4:44 left in the opening quarter.

After the Fusion tied the game on a 46-yard pass from Grady Gonsioroski to Tiegan Cundiff. The Fusion then moved ahead on a 53-yard completion from Gonsioroski to Blaine Frisbee.

The first score of the second quarter came on a threeyard pass from Layne Engesser to Frisbee. Brett Mullin kicked the conversion for a 20-6 margin. R-L struck next on a 32-yard throw from Gonsioroski to Cundiff for a 26-6 score.

The Bulldogs gained some momentum back when Strickland took the ensuing kickoff and raced 70 yards for a touchdown to close the gap to 26-12.

R-L, however, responded with a 55-yard kickoff return by Engesser for a touchdown. A pass from Gonsioroski to Cundiff put the score at 39-12 with 5:23 left in the half. The last touchdown of the first half was scored by Gonsioroski on an eight-yard run for a 46-12 margin.

The Fusion struck first in the third quarter on a 41-yard pass from Gonsioroski to Cundiff.

Bainville then put together a 40-yard scoring drive. The possession included an 11-yard gain by Strickland on a key fourth-down play. The Bulldogs scored on a six-yard pass from Romo to Strickland for a 52-18 margin.

The Fusion’s remaining touchdowns were scored by Frisbee on a 64-yard kickoff return and Cundiff on a 29yard reception.

The Bulldogs next travel to Savage for a Saturday night contest on Sept. 18.
