Red Hawks Knock Off Jordan To Stay Undefeated

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks looked sharp as they exploded for 38 points in the opening quarter and downed defending state six-man football champion Jordan, 76-6, in Medicine Lake on Saturday afternoon.

“We came out and played hard,” Froid/Lake coach Michael Reiter said after the victory improved his team’s record to 3-0 for the season.

The Red Hawks will play in Lambert to decide first place in the league at 7 p.m. on Friday.

“We were able to do the things that we wanted to do,” Reiter said about the win over Jordan.

The Red Hawks covered 69 yards on their first drive, which included four runs by freshman Mason Dethman. Froid/Lake got on the scoreboard when Dethman ran in from 17 yards out with 8:49 on the clock for a 6-0 lead.

Jordan’s only score came on its possession. A 54-yard pass play from Walker Colvin to Dalton Bliss set the Mustangs up at the Froid/Lake 10. On fourth down from the one, Ryan Reynolds scored for a 6-6 deadlock. Froid/Lake’s Colt Miller sacked the quarterback on the conversion attempt.

A 38-yard return by Ashdyn Hobbs on the ensuing kickoff put the ball at the Jordan 34. On second down, a quick pass from Brett Stentoft to Ashdyn Hobbs resulted in a 31-yard touchdown. Issac Johnson kicked the conversion for a 14-6 margin.

The Red Hawks then received a break when sophomore Austen Hobbs recovered a misplayed kickoff at the Jordan 21. An 11-yard dash by Dethman and another kick by Johnson increased the margin to 22-6.

Strong defensive plays by Stentoft and Walker Ator forced the Mustangs into a fourth-and-four situation. Heavy pressure by Quinn Abar resulted in an incomplete pass. The Red Hawks took over and scored on a 37-yard run by Dethman with still 3:10 remaining in the first quarter.

The Red Hawks soon were in excellent field position again when a punt attempt by the Jordan featured a bad snap. Froid/Lake took over at the three and the Red Hawks scored on seven-yard smash by Stentoft. Johnson’s kick increased the margin to 38-6.

Froid/Lake’s first touchdown of the second quarter came on a 42-yard pass play from Dethman to Ashdyn Hobbs.

After a fumble recovery by Ashdyn Hobbs, the Red Hawks went on to score on a one-yard run by Stentoft. Johnson’s kick increased the advantage to 54-6 with 4:22 left in the second quarter.

The Red Hawks received two points for a safety when Jordan mishandled a pitchout to start the third quarter.

Froid/Lake then scored a touchdown on a 37-yard run by Connor Huft for a 64-6 advantage.

Froid/Lake’s next touchdown was scored by Caden Kelm on a nine-yard fumble recovery after Miller put pressure on the quarterback.

The final spread became 76-6 when Nate Stentoft scored on a five-yard run with 1:41 remaining.
