With beautiful weather and an outstanding site for sixman football action, Bainville hosted the Froid/Lake Red Hawks on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The two squads played their conference game earlier this season, but this extra contest was scheduled after virus related cancellations occurred. The result was the Bulldogs putting up a good fight early on before losing by a 70-14 final against the undefeated Froid/Lake squad.

After nice gains by junior running back Connor Huft, the Red Hawks reached the end zone first on an eightyard keeper run by Mason Dethman. Issac Johnson kicked the conversion for an 8-0 margin.

Bainville responded with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Strickland to Charles Butikofer to close the margin to 8-6.

The Bulldogs were in business again when Braeden Romo recovered an on-sides kick. Bainville’s threat ended on a fourth-down sack by 204-pound sophomore Quinn Abar. Dethman then connected with Johnson on a slant pass for a 38-yard touchdown and a 14-6 lead.

After an interception by Huft, the Red Hawks struck again on a 54-yard pass play from Dethman to Colt Miller for a 20-6 lead with 1:10 left in the first quarter.

The margin became 26-6 when Dethman hit Huft with a 32-yard touchdown pass with 8:58 remaining in the half.

The Bulldogs, however, didn’t back down as they drove 69 yards with powerful runs by Romo highlighting the drive. Bainville reached the end zone on an 18-yard pass from Strickland to C. Butikofer. Strickland kicked the conversion to pull the Bulldogs to 26-14.

Froid/Lake scored on a 40-yard dash by Dethman to put the margin at 32-14. After a fumble recovery by Brett Stentoft, the Red Hawks hit paydirt on a 32-yard run by Dethman. Johnson battled in for the conversion for a 39-14 advantage. The Red Hawks’ defense accounted for the next score when quarterback pressure by Abar resulted in a fumble recovery in the end zone by Miller for a 45-14 lead at the half.

After an interception by Stentoft, Froid/Lake scored first in the third quarter on a 13-yard throw from Dethman to Jason Eylander.

Johnson raced down the sideline for a 72-yard punt return to increase the margin to 57-14 with 1:59 left in the third quarter.

On the opening play of the fourth quarter, Abar recovered a bad snap in the end zone for a 63-14 advantage.

The Red Hawks’ Walker Ator recovered a fumble at the Bainville four late in the contest. Ator, a senior, scored on a four-yard run. Dethman battled in for the conversion and a 70-14 final.

Froid/Lake will host Wibaux in Medicine Lake on Saturday, Oct. 10.
