Larry Hamilton
Larry Hamilton, 79, of Poplar died Oct. 11, 2020, in Great Falls.
He was born April 4, 1941, in Poplar, the middle child of five born to Harry and Nellie Hamilton.
He grew up in Poplar and Oswego. In his teen life, he went to Washington state and then moved back to Poplar, the place that he loved and called his home.
Through his years, he had many jobs. Back in the late 1960s, he became a long-haul truck driver. He loved trucking all over the states. He decided to quit trucking and became a police officer on the reservation for about 10 years. He was a Valley County Sheriff’s deputy for two years and was the Fort Peck Assiniboine Sioux Tribes Fish and Game supervisor for five years.
He worked in the roustabout business and was a heavy equipment operator, which he was incredibly good at. In 2016, Larry entered the heavy equipment rodeo in Billings where he had taken first place and won a jacket and plaques by winning all three operating rounds. He was very proud of that. He also owned his own towing company, Hamilton’s Towing, and loved his tow truck. He worked for Mechanical Systems. He started working with IRR and later moved on to Enterprise and worked there until his death.
He never liked to stay home and was always doing something. He was always willing to lead a helping hand when someone needed help. His favorite sport was team roping and hanging out with his buddies. His life was all about team roping with his brother Sonny, traveling, going to basketball games sitting front row at every game, other sporting events and auctions. In his down time, he loved to just relax and watch a good western movie. He always knew how to make someone laugh and was a typical jokester. He was one person you can count on to the get the job done.
He is survived by Nadine Richards, a longtime dear friend and companion; his daughters, Rose Martinez of Mesa, Wash., Taffy Hamilton of Billings, Bernita Granbois of McLaughlin, S.D., Peggy Hamilton of Mesa, Wash., and Bernice Hamilton of Spokane, Wash.; sons, Lawrence Hamilton, Dewayne Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Terrence Hamilton and Mark Hamilton, all of Wolf Point; and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
