MHSA Announces Winter Changes

The Montana High School Association announced last week that practices for high school basketball squads will begin a few weeks later that planned with the hope of reducing the potential amount of COVID cases.

Instead of starting practice on Nov. 19, practices can’t start now until Dec. 7. Wrestling also won’t be allowed to have practices until Dec. 7. Competitions can first begin the first week of January.

Mark Beckman, executive director of the Montana High School Association, said officials will continue to address guidelines at its annual November meeting. As we head to the post season for fall sports, the Montana High School Association’s executive board adjusted its fan policy for football and volleyball. Guidelines, which need to be approved by local county health departments, include up to a maximum of six spectator passes per uniformed player for both home and visiting teams, up to a maximum of four spectator passes for each alternate and manager, up to a maximum of two spectator passes for members of the coaching staff and up to a maximum of two spectator passes for each cheerleader up to 12 total cheerleaders.
