Whether it’s through the FFA program, Business Professionals of America or in sports, senior Kaden Hansen has embraced the leadership role at Bainville High School.

Hansen, the son of Chris and Brandy Hansen, is the chapter presidents for both Bainville’s FFA and BPA programs.

“I spread myself pretty thin,” Hansen, who carries a 4.0 grade point average, laughs.

He notes that both programs are very beneficial for students in order to seek future success.

“There are different skills that you won’t learn anywhere else,” Hansen said.

He has been involved with the FFA program since the seventh grade. His favorite FFA categories include Farm Business Management and livestock. Bainville’s team recently earned second place in the livestock competition during an event held in Opheim. Bainville has about 20-25 students involved in the FFA program.

“I was happy because we worked hard to get there,” Hansen said. “This year, we expect a good program.”

As far as BPA, Hansen enjoys the categories of interview skills and extemporaneous speech. Last year, he placed fourth at regionals and fifth at state for interview skills. He earned third at regionals for extemporaneous speech and ninth place at regionals for fundamentals of accounting.

“My goal is to make it to nationals this year,” Hansen said.

In sports, Hansen is one of Bainville’s standouts in football, basketball and track.

“My favorite thing about football is being with my teammates and friends,” he said.

Basketball, however, is his favorite sport. He said his biggest highlight was defeating the Richey/Lambert team.

“That was a big turning point for us,” Hansen said of the win. “We want to keep competing at a high level and keep working hard.”

He competes in the shot put, discus and javelin during the track season. He hopes to be one of the top throwers in the area this spring. “I have high expectations for myself,” he added.

Hansen said his favorite class is agriculture. His family raises cattle and grows crops.

“I like all of my teachers,” he noted. He is the student body’s vice president.

He plans to study civil engineering at Montana State University. He’s grateful for the lessons that he’s learned in Bainville.

“I like the small town feel and how everybody supports each other,” Hansen said.
