Wolf Point led most of the way to beat Poplar, 25-14, 25-19, 25-20, in league volleyball action on Thursday, Oct. 22.

“We needed to come in and win in three,” Wolf Point Coach Kim Hanks said after the victory in Poplar. “I was pleased with their attitude. They are wanting to finish the season in a strong way.”

The Wolves took a 9-5 lead in the first set on a tip by Gracie Ferdina, an ace by Halley Nelson and two kills by Mikaya Smoker-Dewitt.

Ahead by a 9-6 margin, Wolf Point gained further control on kills by Sierra Hamilton, Ferdina and J’Elle Garfield.

After a kill by Jewel Olson put the Wolves up by a 20-8 margin, Poplar fought back to 21-12 on kills by Emma Martell and Macey Stump. Wolf Point went on for a 25-14 win.

The Indians jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the second set. The serving of Stump highlighted the streak.

An ace by Demi Kegley and a kill by Hamilton helped Wolf Point move ahead by a 16-11 advantage.

The Wolves took control with a block by Hamilton and a spike by Olson for a 20-14 advantage. Poplar cut the margin to 20-17 on kills by Martell and Stump.

Kills by Olson and Garfield produced a 23-18 lead for the Wolves en route to a 25-19 win.

In the third set, Poplar took a 9-7 advantage on a kill by Morgen Nordwick.

Wolf Point earned a 13-11 advantage on a block and ace by Hamilton. A kill by Olson increased put the margin at 15-12.

Ahead 19-15, the Wolves struck with two aces by Nelson and a kill by Smoker-Dewitt for a 22-15.

The play of Jazmyn Gorder led Poplar back to as close as 22-19, but Wolf Point scored three of the last four points including a kill by Hamilton.

Leaders for the Wolves included Olson with seven kills and Ferdina with 25 assists.

Sibley and Hamilton each had three blocks. Katelyn MacDonald and Nelson each served four aces.

Poplar’s Stump accounted for two blocks and three aces.

Gorder finished with five kills and seven digs. Keandra Martell had eight assists. Nordwick added two blocks.
