The Froid/Lake Red Hawks clinched a berth to the divisional volleyball tournament with a hard-fought home victory over Richey/Lambert on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The District 1C tournament match, played in Medicine Lake, featured a strong start by the Red Hawks in the opening set as an ace by Kinsey Rasmussen along with the net play of Sydney Dethman and Dasani Nesbit led to an 8-2 lead.

A block by Dethman and a back-row kill by Carolyne Christoffersen put Froid/ Lake up by a 14-7 margin.

After the Red Hawks enjoyed a 18-12 advantage, the Fusion closed to 18-14 on a block by Rhiannon Reichel and an ace by Laurel Sponheim.

Nesbit and Christoffersend led the Red Hawks to a 23-15 lead, but Richey/Lambert got as close as 24-18 on the strong net play of Jaylyn Klempel. The Red Hawks finished the set on a tip by Dethman.

Richey/Lambert, led by the serving of ShaeLyn Williams, jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second set. After the Red Hawks cut the gap to 16-15, the Fusion moved ahead 19-16 on kills by Klempel.

A kill and block by Rhiannon Reichel increased the Fusion’s lead to 24-19. Froid/ Lake fought back to 24-22 on kills by Dethman and Nesbit, but the Fusion won by the 25-22 final.

Ahead by only a 12-11 margin in the third set, the Red Hawks stretched their advantage on an ace by Baylee Davidson and kills by Dethman and Nesbit. An ace by Nesbit and a kill by Aleah Johnson put the difference at 20-11.

After a block by the Fusion’s Klempel and an ace by Makyya Beyer pulled the Fusion to 21-15, the Red Hawks rolled off the last four points of the third set on an ace by Dethman, a tip by Davidson, an ace by Rasmussen and a kill by Dethman for a 25-15 win.

The serving of Dethman and hitting of Nesbit led the Red Hawks to a 13-5 lead in the fourth set. A kill and ace Christoffersen increased Froid/Lake’s lead to 17-8.

The Fusion battled back on two aces by Williams, a block by Klempel and three kills by Sponheim to cut the gap to 18-15.

Froid/Lake responded with kills by Johnson and Dethman for a 22-16 advantage. The Red Hawks ended the fourth set with a 25-17 win.

Dethman led the Red Hawks with 10 kills and 11 blocks. Other leaders in kills were Nesbit with six, Johnson with five and Christoffersen with five.

Davidson accounted for 27 assists.

Rasmussen served five aces. Having six digs each were Nesbit and Christoffersen.
