Election Turnout High In Roosevelt County
Roosevelt County residents have displayed great interest in this year’s general election as more than half of the county’s registration voters took part in mail-in balloting.
Roosevelt County Clerk and Recorder Cheryl Hansen said on Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, that the county has received 3,598 ballots prior to Tuesday’s official Election Day.
“Those were received and accepted,” she said.
The county has 5,971 registered voters, Hansen added.
Voting took place at the courthouse until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Topping the election is the voters’ decision for president between current President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Three state-wide elections have attracted attention in Montana as well as donations from throughout the country.
Montanans went to the polls to decide between Republican Greg Gianforte and Mike Cooney for governor. Gianforte is currently Mon- Election
tana’s U.S. representative while Cooney is the state’s lieutenant governor.
The race for U.S. Senate received national attention as Republican Sen. Steve Daines seeks re-election against current governor Steve Bullock.
Candidates to replace Gianforte as Montana’s state representative featured Democrat Kathleen Williams and Republican Matt Rosendale.
Another attraction for area
voters was Roosevelt County Attorney Austin Knudsen, a Republican, seeking the position of Attorney General against Democrat Raph Graybill.
The high voting turnout in Roosevelt County is in line with the rest of Montana. The Montana Secretary of State reported a record of 517,441 ballots being case prior to Tuesday. The previous high voting turnout for Montana was 516,901 ballots.
