Library Board Moves Forward With Signage Upgrades

Pat Henry To Be Honored With Book Purchases
The Roosevelt County Library Board held their regular meeting via Zoom Oct. 24. The following board members were in attendance: Beth Hekkel, library chairperson; Gloria Mason, vice-chair; trustees Sue Snitker and Helen Welte, and Janet Livingston, library director. Froid branch librarian Sheri Harvey, Culbertson’s Leona Colvin and Montana Statewide Consulting Librarian Suzanne Reymer also attended.
The minutes of the Sept. 26 meeting were reviewed. There was one correction needed regarding the date. The board approved the corrected minutes. The board examined the statement of accounts for September. There were no large purchases for the month.
According to a draft of meeting minutes, the Main’s doors are still locked and staff are conducting curbside service only, taking phone and email orders from patrons requesting items they want to check out, because the COVID-19 active case numbers are still elevated. Staff are also offering printing services to those patrons needing documents if they email them to the library. Notices were put on the library’s website, Facebook page, in the newspaper and the radio station. There is also a sign posted on the door with the library’s temporary hours.
A short discussion was held regarding the Computer Internet Safety Policy with added language intended to incorporate the mobile hotspots into the revised policy. Snitker made a motion to accept the revised policy as written. Mason seconded and the motion carried.
Leona Colvin shared information regarding the Roosevelt County Complex directory sign. This sign does not have the Library listed. The location of the library is important especially for anyone not living in the area or new to the area. Colvin has consulted with several people in the complex. She was told she would need to contact the county commissioners. The sign was made by Montana State Prison Inmates. Colvin reported contacting Peggy Kerr-Sheets from Montana Correctional Enterprises to find out what the cost would be to add a library decal. She also requested a quote for the price of the blue Library signs with the national library icon on them. The metal posts were not included in the quote. Snitker made a motion for Colvin and Livingston to work together and go before the commissioners to present this information for approval. Welte seconded, the motion carried. Colvin also worked with the County Attorney Austin Knudsen to create a waiver specific to COVID-19 for programs in the library. She has also created craft kits for her Story Hour kids to do at home.
Harvey reported there has not been any changes to the way she is conducting business in the Froid library. She said her patrons are good at complying with using masks and hand sanitizer.
Anita Sheetz, librarian at the James E. Shanley Tribal Library in Poplar submitted her September report.
Livingston said she wants to buy a few books in memory of Pat Henry, a former trustee and a friends of the library member. Livingston also reported she attended the Roosevelt County safety meeting. Book Club at the Mai met via conference call.
The next board meeting was tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, with Saturday, Nov. 21 set aside as an alternative date.
