Culbertson Council Approves Vehicle For RCSO
The Town of Culbertson held their regular monthly meeting at Town Hall Monday, Nov. 9. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. council members Abe Rumsey, Nick Oelkers, Mark Nelson and Dave Solem were in attendance, along with Mayor Larry Crowder, Town Clerk/ Treasurer Tiffani Trangsrud, Utility Billing Clerk Amber Fox and Public Works Director Bob Jasper.
Following roll call, the agenda was approved, along with minutes for the Oct. 12 regular meeting. Financials and claims were reviewed. The treasurer’s report for October was approved, along with general journal vouchers, payroll journal vouchers, utility billing vouchers and October bills.
The council discussed Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Trail. Jasper confirmed that the pond is full. He said grass seed was spread at the site last week. The council briefly discussed liability issues and use of the pond.
WWC Engineering Senior Engineer Jeremy Fadness gave the council an update about the water tank project. He said the contractor has finished with the lining and the roof is sealed. He said the next step is to test fill the tank to check for leaks. Jasper said he was waiting on delivery of a chlorine additive to start the test fill.
No additional news was available about the Legion Park access dispute. Crowder said the council will continue to wait for a decision from the judge in the case.
Fadness told the council that WWC has a Nov. 18 meeting coming up regarding the Capital Improvement Plan and Growth Policy. He said the meeting will include a review of maps and survey responses from town residents. He said a public hearing on the plan and policy will likely be needed by the end of January.
The council approved the purchase of a 2021 Chevy Tahoe from High Plains Motors at a cost of $40,000. The town is contractually obliged to buy the department a new vehicle every four years. The council discussed reviewing the existing agreement to verify that surrounding communities are contributing proportionally to the vehicle expense. Olkers gave the council a report from the airport board. He said several leases at the airport remain unsigned due to language about adjustable lease rates. He said the issue is expected to come before the council once lease language has been finalized. Oelkers distributed initial plans for construction and remodeling efforts at the airport, which he said were in early stages and would be reviewed further by the council. Fadness added that a permit request for a height variance which was previously denied has been resubmitted and is being reviewed.
The next public meeting is scheduled for Dec. 14.
