Froid/Lake Red Hawks Lose To Circle
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks didn’t put together one of their best matches of the season together in the opening round of the Eastern C divisional volleyball tournament. The result was Froid/Lake losing to Circle, 21-25, 23-25, 19-25, in Sidney on Thursday, Nov. 5.
After falling behind 5-0 to start the opening set, the Red Hawks battled back to 10-7 on the net play of 5-9 sophomore Dasani Nesbit. Kills by Haven Taylor and Ryann Moline put Circle up 13-8.
Kills by Sydney Dethman, a kill by Aleah Johnson and an ace by Kinsey Rasmussen pulled Froid/Lake to 13-12.
After The Wildcats moved back ahead, Froid/Lake cut the gap to 18-17 on kills by Carolyne Christoffersen. Circle gained a 23-19 lead, but the Red Hawks responded with kills by Dasani Nesbit and Dethman. The Wildcats earned the final two points of the set including the last one on a hit by Kayli Haynie.
The Red Hawks fell behind 7-1 in the second set but slowly got back into the contest. A kill by Rasmussen closed the margin to 12-9. Christoffersen then served an ace for a 12-10 game.
Down 17-13, the Red Hawks struck for eight straight points to grab a 21-17 lead. Kills by Nesbit and Johnson highlighted the streak.
The Wildcats, however, earned a 23-21 advantage. Froid/Lake tied the game on tips by Christoffersen and Dethman. Circle tallied the final two points including an ace by Grace Gackle.
The net play of Dethman kept the Red Hawks close in the third set. An ace by Johnson pulled the Red Hawks to 13-11.
Circle gained a 19-17 advantage on kills by Taylor and Jaylyn Curtiss. Two kills by Dethman helped the Red Hawks to stay within striking distance at 20-19.
The Wildcats struck for the final five points of the match.
Leading Froid/Lake was Dethman with eight kills, two aces and four blocks. Baylee Davidson had 20 assists. Johnson served two aces.
Christoffersen finished with four blocks.
Circle’s R. Moline accounted for nine kills and four aces. Sierra Nagle had 13 assists.
