Poplar-based students attending Fort Peck Community College received Thanksgiving bags from staff at the college beginning Nov. 23. Students living in Poplar were invited to pick up their bags at the Greet the Dawn building.

FPCC president Haven Gourneau told the Northern Plains Independent that staff felt the need to reach out to students during the holiday.

“FPCC faculty handed out COVID safety supply bags and Thanksgiving supplies to FPCC students,” said Gourneau. “FPCC faculty, headed by interim vice president Carrie Schumacher, felt the need to connect with the students. FPCC has been teaching mainly online this semester and faculty missed their students.”

Gourneau said student safety is a priority during the ongoing pandemic.

“Student safety is of utmost importance,” she said. “FPCC is gearing up for spring 2021 semester and students are going to be excited about all the resources FPCC will be providing them for online learning.

FPCC faculty also handed out supplies in Wolf Point at the FPCC Dumont Center campus Nov. 24.
