Hotel Owner, Outdoorsman Drowns At Fort Peck Dredge Cuts
Fort Peck’s Carl Mann died of accidental drowning Nov. 20 at the Dredge Cuts Trout Pond north of Fort Peck.
Sheriff Tom Boyer told area media that Mann was at the pond around 9:40 a.m. with his dog when the dog went out on the ice and fell through. According to Boyer, Mann went after the dog and the ice broke, at which point Mann went into the water.
Both Mann and the dog drowned. Mann’s body was recovered at 11:25 a.m. with help from Valley County Search and Rescue.
His death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
Mann was from the Bitterroot area and lived in Fort Peck partially throughout the year. He and his wife owned the Fort Peck Hotel Restaurant and Bar. He was also a well-known outfitter and outdoorsman.
