It’s been a year of turmoil for the entire world and that includes area schools, but Culbertson superintendent of schools Larry Crowder feels the community has plenty to celebrate this Thanksgiving.

“I’m so thankful that our school is able to remain open,” Crowder said about challenges during COVID. “That’s the biggest thing we should be thankful for right now.”

School officials have closely monitored cases regarding staff and students. The school has also work closely with the Roosevelt County Health Department.

“That’s the biggest thing by far to me for the community,” Crowder said.

He noted that students didn’t miss sporting events or other activities during this fall. One change was the district volleyball tournament was held at multiple locations instead of one tourney site.

“Did it look differently, yes. But it got done,” Crowder said.

He also appreciates the government has let most school decisions up to the discretion of local school boards.

“Our students are trying to be positive although things are awkward at times,” Crowder said while mentioning social distancing procedures.
