Standouts

When it comes to athletics, Culbertson High School senior Mckinsey Justice has definitely made a positive name for herself.

Justice has been one of the standouts for Culbertson’s volleyball squad. She started playing the sport in the sixth grade.

“It’s something that I love doing,” Justice said. “I love my teammates. It’s like a family.”

Although she’s solid in many phases of the sport, she can’t point to her strongest area. “I think everything is pretty equal,” she said.

The reason she likes cheerleading is also because of the closeness of participants. She was a cheerleader for three years.

She was a valuable member of Culbertson’s summer softball team, but it took quite a commitment on her part to become a solid fast-pitch pitcher because her coach didn’t have a background in pitching techniques.

“I watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to do it,” Justice said of fast-pitch pitching. “It was definitely a challenge. I picked up on it pretty fast.”

She especially enjoyed playing against Wolf Point and Poplar softball teams.

“It’s fun to play against other teams that you don’t see so often,” Justice said. “A sport outside is nice.”

During the school day, she says her favorite class is government with teacher Dave Solem.

“He has worksheets and activities that are fun,” Justice said.
