Wolf Point’s speech and drama program may be low on numbers, but the team should be successful again this season.

The team consists of senior Angelica Sutton, junior Daniel Sears and freshman Dell Eymard.

Sears earned third place at the state meet in spontaneous oral interpretation last season.

Sutton qualified for the state meet last year in the category of Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Eymard will participate in dramatic oral interpretation.

Advisor Wendy Connelly is excited about the season but notes that meets will be different that ever before.

“Competitions will be fully virtual,” Connelly said.

Sutton added, “It’s going to be weird.”

The senior is concerned about how voices will be projected during events.

Another change is the competition. During normal years, teams travel and see students from Class A, B and C schools. The virtual meets will feature only competitors from each school’s own class.

“It’s like competing at state all year,” Connelly said about going against Class B schools from across Montana.

One drawback is that students won’t have the opportunity to interact with students from other schools at meet sites.

“These guys are performers.

All of a sudden, they are performing without an audience,” Connelly explained.

She is thankful the students will have a season.

“They really are troopers for wanting to make this season

work,” Connelly said of

team members.

Anyone willing to help judge meets should contact Connelly at the school.

The Wolves opened their season with the Belfry meet on Saturday, Dec. 5. The day’s activities began at 8 a.m. and included four rounds plus semi-finals and finals.

At the opening meet, Sutton earned third place in Lincoln Douglas debate. Sears took third place in spontaneous oral interpretation.

Emyard placed eighth in dramatic oral interpretation.

Wolf Point will participate in the Red Lodge meet on Saturday, Dec. 12.
