The Bainville Town Council held its regular monthly meeting at town hall Monday, Dec. 14. Mayor Dennis Portra and councilmen Chuck Hyatt, Ron Butikofer and Travis Wills were in attendance.

The council approved the meeting agenda and minutes for the Oct. 19 and Nov. 9 meetings.

During department and committee reports, the council tabled plans to make a tractor obsolete for eventual sale. The council will investigate the tractor’s market value before the next meeting.

The council reviewed language for a “Dog At Large” ordinance. A public hearing for the ordinance has been set for Thursday, Jan. 14.

Discussions about IT management were tabled for further discussion.

Roosevelt County Sheriff’s deputy Michael Ellerton gave the council an update on recent law enforcement activity. He said the department has handled five cases in the Bainville area, including a suicide, drug enforcement and stray animals. He said there have been 31 traffic stops.

A temporary shed was approved for Karen Martin. She asked permission to place a 10x12’ garden shed on the property where she resides.

Town clerk Nikki Rogers gave the council an update from the Montana League of Cities and Towns. Portra asked Rogers to represent the town for official communications on coordinated legislative efforts.

A resolution was passed declaring certain days during the holiday season when it is permissible to set off fireworks. The resolution allows residents to light fireworks from sunset on Dec. 24 until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 25 and sunset Dec. 30 through 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1.

The council reviewed delinquent accounts and approved claims and checks dated Dec. 14, as well as JV and UB vouchers and payroll slips.

The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11.
