There has been much holiday festiveness at Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Trail in Culbertson this week. Hot chocolate, cookies and apple cider were offered area residents beginning at 4 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. A bonfire was lit to keep the cold at bay and extra sets of skates were available for use. Visitors were advised to bring their own chairs to the site.

Though solid, the ice was retested by Forbregd and other organizers Dec. 20, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page: “Rumor has it that some people are concerned about the thickness of the ice at Ike’s Pond so we did a little exploring late this afternoon. The ice thickness has grown from 7 to 9 inches since our last testing. Even though the surface is wet due to the recent warm weather, the ice itself is still solid and shows no signs of softening.”

The group also said they were planning to light the bridge at the pond with Christmas lights.

Donations to the project have continued to roll in.

Recent contributors include Shannon Romo and Gordon and Vicki Miller. Basin Electric Power Cooperative matched Sheridan Electric’s donation of $3,000. Travis Northington, Branch Manager of the Culbertson United Grain Terminal, presented the project with a check for $1,000.

Said Forbregd, “Our local Lions Club is designated as a 501(c)(3) status (not for profit) charitable organization. Therefore, all of your donations are ‘tax deductible.’ Please consider contributing to Ike’s so we can keep the momentum moving forward.”

Contributions can be made to the project via Venmo, in person, or by sending your donation to Ike’s Pond Project, C/O Kenneth Forbregd, PO Box 425, Culbertson MT 59218. For more information, call Forbregd at 406-480-4795.
