Wolf Point Woman Lights Up The Neighborhood
Each year, for the past 20-25 years, Betty Moore’s residence on the corner of Fourth Avenue North and Indian Street, has featured a delightful assortment of Christmas lights and ornaments in honor of the holidays.
“My sister [Ella Mae Stolen] and I started a little bit of decorating,” Moore said. “She passed away in 2016. We’ve gradually have been putting more lights up all the time.”
With people struggling because of COVID and social distancing guidelines in 2020, the family aimed to make this year’s display something special.
“We wanted to bring more joy for people,” Moore said. “My daughters keep buying and buying. It’s a lot bigger than normal.”
Moore, 78, credits her daughters Bea Bruce and Sheila Dunn for making the display simply outstanding.
“They do most of it, because I can’t do too much,” Moore said. “I kind of let them do what they wanted. I really enjoy it.”
Most of the work was accomplished in two days. “With everything they added, it took probably a week,” Moore added.
She laughs that her brother had no problem finding her house for supper on Sunday. He remarked that he could see the lights from Northside Elementary School.
“This is the best year we’ve had so far,” Moore said. “Even the girls at the hospital say they can see it from there.”
One of the display’s special items is a seven-and-a-half foot angel. Family members always keep a lookout for possible additions.
“We’re already planning for next year,” Moore said. “It’s going to be a hair bit better.”
Christmas is certainly a special time in Moore’s house. Her holiday meal includes turkey, stuffing, ham and pies.
Near her Christmas tree, you can view a nice assortment of Santas including a new one that moves across the carpet on a bike. She has a room full of “Santas” in her basement, She started the collection about 30 years ago.
“I just saw one I liked and I got it,” Moore said of how the collection started.
Bruce added, “That’s always a good Christmas present for us to pick up for her every year.”
