Culbertson Town Council Approves New Stop Sign
The Culbertson Town Council held their regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 11. Minutes were approved for the Dec. 14 meeting. Financials and claims were approved for December.
Mayor Larry Crowder took the initiative to propose a traffic control review following a visit to last month’s meeting from local resident George Johanneson. The council approved the addition of a new stop sign at the intersection of Second Avenue East and Eighth Street in Culbertson to improve safety for ambulances approaching Roosevelt Medical Center from the north. Crowder said the item will remain on the agenda moving forward as the town reviews other potential problem areas.
Ken Forbregd addressed the council about progress at Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Path. He said donations are continuing to mount up. He said the funds will enable organizers to pay bills and work of future grants. He named several contributers to the project, including the Northeast Montana chapter of Walleyes Unlimited, who recently donated $5,000 to the project.
Forbregd told the council that signage and lighting are being considered at the pond site. The council asked him to return with quotes for lighting options at Ike’s parking lot.
Jeremy Fadness with WWC Engineering told the council that repairs to the water tank remain unfinished. He asked for permission to meet with town attorney Laura Christoffersen about options for pressing Pittsburgh Tank to complete work and honor existing contracts. The council approved his request.
Fadness updated the council about the Montana Department of Transportation Highway 2 project. He said the Montana Department of Environmental Quality is reviewing the town’s loan application.
The planning board will meet Jan. 20 to discuss the Capital Improvement Plan and Growth Policy. Fadness said large maps and other materials are being printed for the planning board meeting.
A position with the town for water/wastewater and maintenance remains open. Town Clerk Tiffani Jasper said there have been several applications received thus far.
