Lustre Defeats Bainville Boys, 60-48
Lustre Christian displayed good ball movement, threepoint shooting and defense to down Bainville, 60-48, during boys’ basketball play in Lustre on Friday, Jan. 8.
After a three-pointer by Braeden Romo pulled Bainville to 24-20 late in the second quarter, Lustre’s Cayden Klatt connected from threepoint range to put the Lions up by a 27-20 half-time margin.
The Lions then took control of the non-conference battle in the third quarter. Ahead 32-24, Lustre’s Elijah Lenihan scored on a drive and three-pointer. A fastbreak basket by Kolden Hoversland increased the margin to 39-24.
After two free throws by Bainville’s Jesse Strickland, a drive by Kolden Hoversland and three-pointer by Lenihan gave the Lions a 44-26 advantage.
Bainville’s Romo hit another three-pointer, but a three-pointer by Klatt put Lustre ahead 47-29 at the end of the third quarter.
The Bulldogs outscored Lustre 19-13 in the fourth quarter for the 60-48 final. Romo scored nine points in the quarter.
Leading the Bulldogs were Romo with 21 and Kaden Hansen with 11. Strickland and Charles Butikofer scored six each. Samuel Butikofer had four points.
