Cowboys Come Up Short Against Savage Squad
Culbertson’s boys’ basketball squad struggled in the second half as the Cowboys lost to Savage, 33-29, on Friday, Jan. 15.
The Cowboys ended the second quarter on a high note as baskets bu Hunter Lucas and Maurice Bighorn closed the margin to 28-20.
Two baskets by Colin Avance put Culbertson down by a only a 30-24 margin early in the third quarter. Savage, however, tallied the next 15 points including seven by Sloan McPherson to gain a 48-26 advantage.
A 14-footer by Mike Pederson ended Savage’s run. The third quarter ended with Savage up by a 53-30 margin.
After Savage scored the first three points of the fourth, the Cowboys responded with nine of the next 11 points on a three-pointer by Avance, two baskets by Lucas and a drive by James Kirkaldie to pull to 58-39.
The Warriors struck for 11 of the next 13 points en route to the win.
Top scorers for the Cowgirls were Pederson with 12, Lucas with 11 and Avance with 11. Also scoring were Payton Perkins with six, Bighorn with three and Carson Solem with two.
Leading Savage were McPherson with 30 and Caesn Erickson with 21 points.
The Warriors took a 16-7 lead in the first quarter. McPherson connected from three-point range to end the period.
