Cowgirls Keep Winning With 67-43 Victory Over Lustre Christian Squad
The Culbertson Cowgirls came out with an aggressive approach and went on to down Lustre, 67-43, in Culbertson on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Deadlocked at 4-4, the Cowgirls ran off 11 straight points on a three-pointer by Koree Marchwick, a hoop by Perla Burciaga off a pass from Makena Hauge, an inside shot by Marchwick, a drive by Megan Granbois and an inbounds play by Burciaga for a 15-4 advantage.
The scoring of Tiara Whitmus pulled the Lions closer, but Hauge accounted for five of the quarter’s last six points for a 20-10 lead.
Lustre fought back to 22-15 on a drive by Alexa Reddig and a three-pointer by Aubri Holzrichter. Lustre came as close as 26-21 on a 15-footer by Holzrichter and a three-point play by Grace Brown.
The Cowgirls responded with baskets by Granbois and Hauge to end the half at 30-21.
After Lustre’s Holzrichter opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, Culbertson struck for six straight points on a baseline shot by Granbois and two hoops by Hauge.
Ahead by a 38-28 margin, the Cowgirls struck for six straight points on three points by Marchwick and a three-pointer by Hauge. Two baskets by Destiny Thompsons and another by Burciaga put the margin at 50-30 to end the third quarter.
Culbertson then put together a 6-0 run midway into the fourth quarter for a 58-34 advantage with 5:32 remaining.
Reaching double figures for Culbertson were Hauge with 20; Granbois, 16; Burciaga, 12; and Marchwick, 10. Thompson added six.
Culbertson will host Plentywood Friday, Jan. 29, and travel to MonDak Saturday, Jan. 30.
