Bainville’s Renee Rasmussen returned to her hometown to take over as superintendent nine years ago, 25 years after she graduated from the school. Now, after 30 years in education, she’ll be retiring from the field and relocating to Helena with husband Roger.

Rasmussen’s career in education began in Chester, where she taught English for 15 years. She next stepped in as superintendent in Wibaux for six years before taking over at Bainville Public School. She told the Community News that it’s been a privilege and a challenge to serve the BPS community.

“You have to do a good job,” said Rasmussen, about leading the school where she grew up. “You can’t let them down.”

Helena will also be a return to family for Rasmussen. She is related to Attorney General Austin Knudsen, who recently relocated to the capital with his family. The Rasmussens are also moving to be near their 10 grandchildren, ranging in ages from five to 12.

“We’re really excited to be closer to them,” said Rasmussen.

She also said that she’s looking forward to prioritizing time with Roger, who has supported her professional goals throughout her career.

“I think my husband deserves to be first,” she said.

Rasmussen offered praise for colleagues. “It’s a really good place to work,” she said. She said the school board and administrative staff have been “top notch.”

Rasmussen’s replacement has not been selected, though one round of interviews have been conducted and another round of candidates will be under consideration at the Feb. 10 school board meeting following a nationwide search.
